Taiwanese food companies reported a substantial number of orders at the Food and Hotel Asia 2010 trade show in Singapore April 20.
Led by Wayne W. Wu, deputy chairman of the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), the 55 participating Taiwan firms are expected to pull in orders worth a total of US$6 million by the end of the exposition April 23.
“Our products are popular for their superior quality and irresistible flavor,” a TAITRA official said.
The companies are presenting nearly 1,000 items in 70 stands at the show, making Taiwan the third largest presence at the event after the United States and Italy.
Well known local firms in attendance include wedding cake company Isabelle Taiwan Co. Ltd., snack company Kuai Kuai Co. Ltd. and seasoning sauce firm Wang Ja Shan Brewery Co. Ltd.
NTUC FairPrice Co-operative Ltd. and Sheng Siong Supermarket Pte Ltd., Singapore’s largest and third-largest supermarket chains, respectively, made purchases at the Taiwan Pavilion April 20.
The biannual trade fair is one of the most important throughout Asia, ranking in prestige with Foodex Japan and the Taipei International Food Show. It gathers global exhibitors to present products and services in the categories of food and beverages, baked goods, dining, hotels and culinary arts.
Now in its 17th year, the 2010 fair stands as the largest ever in its history. There are currently more than 28,500 e-registered buyers, who are likely to place orders worth more than US$6.1 billion.
Singapore is both the gateway to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and India’s largest ASEAN trade partner, with which it has a free trade agreement, the TAITRA official noted. Through participation in this exposition in Singapore, Taiwan companies hope to expand their shares in the ASEAN and Indian markets. (TYH-THN)
