Taiwan, US to hold meetings on 21st-century trade initiative in Taipei

A new round of meetings for the Taiwan-U.S. Initiative on 21st-Century Trade is set to be held Jan. 14-17 in Taipei City, underscoring the commitment of the like-minded partners to continued expansion of economic and trade ties.

Staged in-person under the auspices of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the U.S. and American Institute in Taiwan, the event will be led by Yang Jen-ni, deputy trade representative of the Cabinet-level Office of Trade Negotiations, and Assistant U.S. Trade Representative Terry McCartin.

According to the Executive Yuan, the Taiwan delegation will comprise officials from TECRO, the Ministries of Economic Affairs, Finance and Justice, and the National Development Council. The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative said that the U.S. delegation will include representatives from several U.S. government agencies.

Launched June 1, 2022, the Taiwan-U.S. Initiative on 21st-Century Trade encompasses key areas such as the digital economy, trade facilitation, enhanced regulatory practices, support of small and medium enterprises, environmental and climate action, promotion of standards, and the handling of nonmarket policies and practices.
