Minister of Digital Affairs Audrey Tang shared Taiwan’s successful experience in defending against cyberattacks and foreign interference during Cyber Week 2023 June 27 in Tel Aviv.

Organized by the Blavatnik Interdisciplinary Cyber Research Center (ICRC) of Tel Aviv University, the four-day event involved more than 9,000 experts, business leaders and government officials from around the world and featured 50-plus roundtable sessions, panel discussions and competitions.

In her speech at the annual forum’s main plenary session, Tang detailed updates to the country’s information security policies following a complex network attack last August that resulted in the temporary shutdown of several government websites and the tampering of digital signage.

According to Tang, a range of measures have been implemented to address such issues since the establishment of the ministry. Though cyberattacks were again launched against Taiwan during President Tsai Ing-wen’s recent stopovers in the U.S., no government websites or digital signage were affected, she said.

Quoting the Declaration for the Future of the Internet, Tang called on members of the free world to work together to counter outside information manipulation and interference, protect human rights and promote equitable economic prosperity.

According to the ministry, two other senior officials also took part in roundtable discussions and brought participants up to speed on Taiwan’s key policy measures to build digital resilience and enhance cybersecurity for critical infrastructure.

During her stay in Israel, Tang also attended a welcome banquet hosted by Isaac Ben-Israel, founder of ICRC and former chair of the Israel National R&D Council, as well as a meeting with Boaz Toporovsky, chair of the Israel-Taiwan Parliamentary Friendship Association. (SFC-E)
