President Tsai Ing-wen received American Veterans (AMVETS) National Commander William Clark at the Presidential Office March 19 in Taipei City and expressed her hope for further Taiwan-U.S. cooperation on enhancing veterans’ welfare.
Tsai thanked AMVETS for inviting representatives from Taiwan’s Veterans Affairs Council to attend its National Convention and deliver remarks. Resolutions passed at multiple conventions conveying staunch support for Taiwan are deeply appreciated, she said.
According to Tsai, the VAC strives to improve veterans’ career prospects and enhance the quality of their medical care, while veterans general hospitals across Taiwan are employing smart health care solutions like telemedicine to make services more accessible.
The president went on to express her best wishes for Clark’s scheduled visit to Taipei Veterans General Hospital, which opened Taiwan’s first heavy ion therapy center last year and was listed by U.S. magazine Newsweek as one of the world’s 250 best hospitals in 2024. Tsai added that she looks forward to expanding Taiwan-U.S. exchanges on medical technology to provide long-term care to active-duty troops and veterans.
In response, Clark reaffirmed AMVETS’s full and enduring support for Taiwan and welcomed the upcoming attendance of Taiwan’s representatives at this year’s convention. He said Taiwan and the U.S. both value veterans and are working on legislation benefiting them, adding that the organization is willing to advise on related bills. (YCH-E)
