The Ministry of Foreign Affairs releases a statement Jan. 14 announcing that Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung is set to attend Palau’s presidential inauguration. (MOFA)
Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung is leading a delegation to Taiwan’s Pacific ally Palau to attend the inauguration of President Surangel Whipps Jr. and Vice President-elect Raynold Oilouch, relaying congratulations on behalf of the government and people of Taiwan.

As President Lai Ching-te’s special envoy, Lin aims to promote goals on smart sustainability, sustainable democracy and sustainable diplomatic ties proposed by Lai during his December tour of Taiwan’s Pacific allies and to strengthen economic and trade partnerships between the two countries, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During his four-day stay in Palau, Lin will meet with Whipps, Oilouch and other political figures to exchange views on bilateral cooperation projects, the MOFA said. He will also lead Taiwan representatives from sectors spanning aquaculture, information and communications technology, medicine, port management, and tourism to explore more opportunities for industrial exchanges and technical collaboration, as well as to get a better understanding of the ally’s business and investment environment, the ministry added.

The delegation is committed to promoting Taiwan’s Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project to help strengthen Palau’s economic resilience as part of the government’s integrated diplomacy strategy, the ministry said, adding that Taiwan will continue to deepen its democratic supply chain partnership with Palau while jointly advancing regional peace and stability.

The MOFA said the two countries share the values of freedom, democracy and respect for human rights and enjoy close cooperation in the fields of agricultural and fishery technology, climate change adaptation, culture, education, humanitarian relief, infrastructure, justice, medical care, sports and tourism. Taiwan will continue to collaborate with its ally based on this solid foundation to enhance the mutually beneficial relationship, it added. (YCH-E)
