A new episode of Australian media outlet Ticker’s series The Airport Economist was commissioned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and premiered March 27 at the New South Wales Legislative Assembly to demonstrate how the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership will be stronger with Taiwan.

According to the MOFA, the video features Deputy Foreign Minister François Chih-chung Wu and key business leaders to spotlight the country’s economic prowess.

The ministry said that the launch event was co-hosted by David Cheng-wei Wu, director-general of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Sydney, and attended by more than 100 academics, political figures and journalists from Australia, as well as Taiwan expatriates, including Douglas Hsu, Taiwan's representative in Australia.

Jacqui Munro, member of the New South Wales legislature, spoke at the premiere, saying that Taiwan and Australia both value freedom and democracy and expressing a confident hope that their economic and trade partnership would continue to grow despite severe challenges to the international order.

Attending guests also praised the key role of Taiwan in the global high-tech supply chain, adding that Taiwan’s CPTPP inclusion will bring growth and prosperity to the global economy. They called on the Australian government to keep supporting Taiwan’s economic growth and democratic resilience to ensure that Taiwan can take on a bigger role in the international community.

The MOFA said that joining CPTPP is a policy priority, so the government will continue to seek avenues to show the world that Taiwan is willing and capable of contributing to regional prosperity and work with the CPTPP members to create a future where all can prosper. (SFC-E)
