Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung visited Eswatini as President Lai Ching-te’s special envoy April 21-26 to attend celebrations in honor of King Mswati III’s 57th birthday, deepening two-way ties and cooperation, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On the last day of his visit to the ally, Lin announced a cooperative project and the contribution of NT$1.72 million (US$52,939) to Big Game Parks, a local wildlife conservation group that also protects rhino habitats. In addition, the minister named a newborn rhino “Formosa.”

In his remarks, Lin conveyed appreciation to BGP for its wildlife conservation work, adding that Taiwan also recognizes the importance of biodiversity, as evidenced by the promulgation of Act on Wildlife Conservation and the implementation of Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora.

During the six-day trip with a delegation including domestic industry representatives, Lin signed memorandums of understanding spanning digital infrastructure, medicine and prevention of information manipulation. He also toured businesses run by expatriate Taiwan entrepreneurs, in addition to visiting Mbabane Government Hospital emergency clinic, a Taiwan-assisted project.

The ministry noted that as well as having an audience with King Mswati III, Queen Mother Ntombi Tfwala, Lin also met with Prime Minister Russell Dlamini; Foreign Minister Pholile Shakantu and other high-ranking officials. (POC-E)
