The 2025 Taiwan-Sweden Trade Talks and 41st Joint Business Council Meeting were held June 3 in Stockholm, with the two sides exploring areas of mutual interest to further deepen the robust economic and trade ties.
According to the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the two events were convened by Deputy Minister Cynthia Kiang and Swedish State Secretary for Foreign Trade Håkan Jevrell. Discussions spanned a wide range of topics, including energy policy, green transition, circular economy, intellectual property protections and innovative ecosystems.
In her remarks at the trade talks, Kiang outlined Taiwan’s trusted supply chain policy initiative, which aims to expand cooperative relations with like-minded partners. She thanked the Swedish government for supporting Taiwan and anticipated more bilateral industrial and technical exchanges based on the solid existing foundation.
During the event, the Taiwan delegation introduced national startup incubation initiatives such as Startup Terrace Linkou in New Taipei City, and invited Swedish firms to expand into Taiwan. The two sides also exchanged views on ways to tackle transition challenges as they strive to accomplish their respective net-zero emission goals, as well as identified potential areas for expanding cooperation, especially in thermal energy development.
At the business council meeting, the two sides discussed opportunities in areas such as information and communications technology and low-orbit satellites. Kiang welcomed Swedish firms to invest in Taiwan to capitalize on the government’s initiatives promoting the Five Trusted Industry Sectors and the health and wellness industry.
MOEA statistics show Sweden as Taiwan’s leading Nordic trade partner and second-largest source of investment in the region, with bilateral trade totaling US$1.41 billion in 2024. (SFC-E)
