Foreign ministry delivers Q1 trade promotion report card

June 12, 2025
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs delivers impressive results in promoting trade and diplomatic affairs during the first quarter of 2025. (MOFA)
Taiwan continued to make strides in deepening trade relations with the country’s allies and diplomatic partners in 2025 on the strength of the government’s integrated diplomacy policy and the hard work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and associated overseas offices.

According to the MOFA, the first quarter of 2025 was marked by a stagnant global economy amidst uncertainties such as U.S. tariff policies, sustained inflation and global supply chain restructuring exacerbated by strategic competition between the U.S. and China.

Using Taiwan’s key role in the global democratic supply chain and first island chain in the Indo-Pacific as leverage, the ministry continued to work with democratic partners to build more resilient and diverse semiconductor supply chains and promote the Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project initiative.

Highlights of the MOFA’s achievements to date include efforts in expanding semiconductor supply chain cooperation and exchanges with the Free State of Saxony in Germany, the Czech Republic, India, Japan, the U.K. and the U.S. state of New Jersey.

The ministry also helped foster cooperation with allies and like-minded partners on sectors such as AI urban governance, carbon reduction, drone and green and solar energy development, and played a key role in promoting initiatives on agriculture, medical care, network security, smart city development and sustainable tourism at home and abroad.

The MOFA continued to make the case for Taiwan to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership, and remained in close contact with the U.S. government to fast track legislation of the Taiwan-U.S. Avoidance of Double Taxation Agreement.

Based on the achievements of integrated diplomacy, the ministry said it will keep sharing Taiwan’s successful experience and roll out other cooperative projects to deepen trade and economic ties with partner countries around the world. (SFC-E)
