MOFA thanks U.K., France, Czechia leaders for supportive statements

July 14, 2025
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs July 11 warmly welcomes the remarks by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron and Czech President Petr Pavel supporting regional peace and stability and commending Taiwan. (MOFA)
The recent remarks by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron and Czech President Petr Pavel supporting peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and commending Taiwan are sincerely appreciated by the government and people, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said July 11.

According to the MOFA, following the 37th U.K.-France Summit held July 10 in London, Starmer and Macron issued a joint statement reaffirming commitment to peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula, South and East China Seas, and Taiwan Strait, as well as calling for the peaceful resolution of cross-strait issues.

The ministry said the latest statement is in line with the stance expressed by the two leaders after the Group of Seven Summit held last month in Italy, reflecting the global consensus on maintaining cross-strait peace.

During his speech at the “Heads of State and Government” plenary session during the fourth Ukraine Recovery Conference held July 10 in Rome, Pavel highlighted successful projects undertaken by the Czech Republic and Taiwan to provide safe drinking water to 380,000 residents of Dnipropetrovsk in eastern Ukraine and to deliver power generation equipment to Kharkiv. He stressed that the endeavors were a model of cooperation between like-minded democracies.

The MOFA said that since the war between Russia and Ukraine began, Taiwan and the Czech Republic have signed three memorandums of understanding to facilitate the reconstruction of basic infrastructure in Ukraine, improving the Eastern European country’s health care capacity and accelerating rebuilding.

As a responsible member of the global community, Taiwan will continue to work with democratic partners to promote a free, open and prosperous Indo-Pacific and defend the rules-based international order, the ministry added. (SFC-E)
