MOFA thanks France for support

July 17, 2025
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomes the French government’s support for cross-strait peace and stability as expressed in its National Strategic Review 2025. (MOFA)
Support from the French government for peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait is sincerely appreciated, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said July 15.

According to the MOFA, the position was presented in France’s updated National Strategic Review 2025 report, which reiterates that the growing sophistication and intensity of military exercises around Taiwan have demonstrated China’s increasing assertiveness. It expressed concerns about Beijing’s repeated and unprecedented scale of maneuvers around Taiwan in 2024 and 2025, and the possibility of a dangerous and volatile regional situation. The report further described Taiwan as a key link in the semiconductor supply chain, the ministry added.

A similar stance was also mentioned in the review’s 2022 edition, the MOFA said, adding that both reviews demonstrated close French attention to the security of Taiwan and that of the Taiwan Strait. The review followed a joint statement by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron, reaffirming commitment to cross-strait peace and stability, issued after the 37th U.K.-France Summit held July 10 in London, the ministry noted.

As an indispensable element in Indo-Pacific stability, Taiwan will continue to work with France and other democracies to safeguard freedom while maintaining cross-strait and regional peace and stability, the MOFA added. (YCH-E)
