Deputy Minister of Agriculture Hu Jong-i led a delegation to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Food Security Ministerial Meeting Aug. 10 in Incheon, South Korea, to share Taiwan’s smart agriculture development and expand regional exchanges.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Hu brought officials from other APEC member economies up to speed on Taiwan’s success in adopting the artificial intelligence, big data and the Internet of Thing technologies to establish precision agricultural systems to strengthen climate change adaptation and enhance production efficiency.
The minister also briefed on government measures aimed at strengthening Taiwan’s agricultural resilience and addressing challenges such as climate change, food supply chain disruption and labor shortage.
In particular, Hu outlined the APEC Workshop on Reducing Food Loss and Waste through Packaging Innovations that the MOA organized this June in Taiwan. The event involved more than 140 participants from 16 APEC member economies to share experiences in using innovative packaging technology to reduce food waste and loss in line with the APEC’s “Food Security Roadmap towards 2030,” he added.
The MOA said Hu also held bilateral meetings with officials from South Korea, Mexico and Australia to exchange views on a wide range of issues such as regional food security, smart agricultural development and Taiwan exports inspection issues.
The ministry said it will continue to take part in APEC events to deepen cooperation with regional partners and expand international markets for Taiwan’s advanced agricultural products and technologies. (SFC-E)
