Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung attended the opening ceremony of the 20th World Congress on Medical and Health Informatics Aug. 10 in Taipei City, anticipating the event to expand Taiwan’s global smart medicine cooperation for the benefit of all.

In a post on his official Facebook account, Lin said that during the opening ceremony he emphasized Taiwan’s robust smart medicine sector, which he attributed to the country’s leading expertise in health care and information and communications technology.

The government is also leveraging the country’s prowess to assist allies with medical services enhancement, the minister said. A prime example is the health information system that Taiwan helped set up in Paraguay to raise clinical efficiency and improve the well-being of its people, he added.

According to Lin, as part of the government’s Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Health and Welfare are working to create a Team Taiwan platform that comprises businesses, medical institutions and experts from public and private associations. The initiative will help allies advance their public health while expanding business opportunities for local firms and contributing to the global community, he added.

Organized by the Taiwan Association for Medical Informatics and Switzerland-based International Medical Informatics Association, the 2025 MedInfo event involves more than 1,000 experts and business leaders from around the world to discuss the latest developments in health and biomedical informatics, and share insights on new developments in artificial intelligence, information technology, medicine and nursing.
