Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung received new Polish Office in Taipei Director Janusz Henryk Bilski Aug. 13 in the capital, pledging to enhance bilateral exchanges and strengthen democratic resilience.
In a post on his official Facebook account, Lin praised the new director for his Mandarin fluency and rich diplomatic experience, adding that his appointment underscores the importance the Polish government attaches to the bilateral relationship.
The minister noted that during his trip to the EU member state last year, he visited Łódź, which is the new director’s hometown. Many Taiwan firms have operations in the central Polish city, a fact that bears testimony to the close business ties between the two sides, he added.
According to Lin, as global supply chains undergo restructuring, Taiwan and Poland continue to deepen partnership through the Taiwan-Poland Economic Consultations. He said Taiwan is promoting semiconductor supply chain resilience in central and eastern Europe, hoping to see the country expand its high-tech influence and help Poland, Germany and the Czech Republic create a silicon triangle in the region.
At the same time, Lin said Taiwan’s EVA Airways teamed up with LOT Polish Airlines to operate codeshare services starting in June this year. Both Lin and the new director believe improving transportation convenience will help bolster bilateral exchanges in culture, investment and trade.
The two sides are also working to arrange more reciprocal art and cultural group visits and organize exhibitions of loaned museum items, he said, anticipating the expanded cultural exchanges to bring the people even closer together. (SFC-E)
