MOFA thanks EP for statement supporting cross-strait peace, stability

October 20, 2025
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomes an Oct. 16 European Parliament statement reaffirming support for cross-strait peace and stability. (MOFA)
The European Parliament’s support for peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait is sincerely appreciated by the government and people of Taiwan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Oct 18.

The MOFA’s statement followed a communique released on the 42nd Inter-Parliamentary Meeting between delegations from the EP and the People’s Republic of China’s National People’s Congress Oct. 16 in Brussels.

European delegates emphasized that cross-strait peace and stability are in the interest of the EU and the world. The EU rejects any unilateral change to the status quo, particularly through force or coercion, and will continue to pursue close cooperation with Taiwan. Delegates further rejected any distortion or misrepresentation of facts, particularly regarding U.N. Resolution 2758, the communique added.

The EP has continued to staunchly support cross-strait and regional peace and stability as evidenced by the Common Foreign and Security Policy and the Common Security and Defence Policy passed earlier this year, along with a resolution, approved last year, on the PRC’s misinterpretation of U.N. Resolution 2758 and its continuous military provocations around Taiwan, the MOFA said. Taiwan will continue to deepen cooperation with the EP and build a partnership based on shared values to jointly strengthen democratic resilience, the ministry added. (YCH-E)
