The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted a tour of northern Taiwan’s smart agriculture industry for foreign diplomatic corps Oct. 30-31.

Accompanied by Deputy Foreign Minister Chen Ming-chi and Lien Yu-ping, director general of the Department of International Cooperation and Economic Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, attendees included ambassadors and officials from Belize, Haiti, the Marshall Islands, Paraguay, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, as well as representatives of Austria, Brunei, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Mongolia, Nigeria, Singapore, Somaliland, Sweden, Switzerland, the Philippines and 2 U.S. states.

In Taipei City group members went to iChase to learn about its method of transforming livestock care through artificial intelligence, and biotech company Hi-Q to see its proprietary circulation system, which offers higher water quality, and a feed additive formula developed to provide antibodies. They also stopped in at YesHealth iFarm in Taoyuan City to get a deeper understanding of the integration of agricultural production and health tourism, and learned about Miaoli County-based dairy producer Fourways’ system for monitoring herd health.

According to the MOFA, attendees expressed interest in additional similar tours to get firsthand experience of Taiwan’s industrial environment and development. Such activities strengthen the democratic supply chain and facilitate the deepening of bilateral relationships between Taiwan and its allies and partners, the ministry said.

Smart agriculture is one of the top priorities of the Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project, the MOFA said, adding that the project aims to share Taiwan’s expertise, services and smart solutions in terms of digitalization, green power, health care and resilience. (YCH-E)
