Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung received a delegation from the World Medical Association Dec. 3 in Taipei City and thanked the global entity for supporting Taiwan’s bid to take part in the World Health Organization.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the group was led by President Jacqueline Kitulu and comprised Chair Jack Resneck and Secretary General Otmar Kloiber.

The Minister said that in addition to publicly backing Taiwan’s WHO participation, the WMA has helped defend the rights and status of Taiwan Medical Association at various WMA events. The ministry looks forward to expanding cooperation with the association at future global medical meetings and activities, he added.

In line with President Lai Ching-te’s vision to build a healthier Taiwan, Lin said the MOFA will continue to work with the domestic public and private sectors to promote medical diplomacy and demonstrate how Taiwan Can Lead to advance the well-being of people around the world through the Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project.

In response, Kitulu praised Taiwan for its high national health insurance coverage rate and strong digital medicine advantage. The WMA will continue to support Taiwan’s participation in global medical systems, as global cooperation is crucial to promoting health for all, she said.

Resneck thanked Taiwan for contributing to global health care, while Kloiber stressed that Taiwan should not be excluded from the meetings of the WHO and related mechanisms because its participation benefits the global health network. (SFC-E)
