Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung hosted a meeting with an Italian parliamentary delegation led by Alessandro Cattaneo, member of the Italy-Taiwan Parliamentary Friendship Group, Jan. 8 in Taipei City, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Lin recalled his visit to Italy last September, when several Italian lawmakers attended a ceremony marking the completion of renovations at the Taipei Representative Office in Italy. He cited strong cultural ties, including the Stradivarius collection at Chimei Museum in Tainan City, and growing industrial cooperation such as GlobalWafers Co.’s establishment of a 12-inch wafer fabrication plant in Novara last year.

Following the reception, Vice Foreign Minister Ger Bau-shuan held a luncheon for the delegation, thanking the Italian government and Parliament for supporting cross-strait peace and stability. He said security in Europe and the Indo-Pacific is closely linked and noted shared values and cooperation potential in culture, education and key technologies.

In response, Cattaneo said the delegation includes lawmakers from six political parties, reflecting Italy’s broad, cross-party support for Taiwan. He expressed interest in expanding academic exchanges and artificial intelligence, semiconductor and trade cooperation while pledging continued support for cross-strait peace in the Italian Parliament.

According to the MOFA, delegation members will meet with Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim and other Cabinet and Legislature officials during their five-day stay. They will also visit Hsinchu Science Park, Industrial Technology Research Institute, Taiwan AI Labs and STMicroelectronics’s Taiwan branch, the ministry added. (YCH-E)
