A mobile Chinese medicine service kicked off July 29 in Miaoli County and will make a total of 30 stops in the county's 18 townships.
Dubbed "Preventive care using traditional Chinese medicine," the mission will teach people acupressure point massage and provide medical consultations. Printed materials published by the Miaoli County Traditional Chinese Medicine Association, like the "Points for Massage" card and the "Truly Loving You All Your Life" guide to Chinese medicine for women, will be handed out at these locations as well.
Chan Yung-chao, director of the TCM Association for the county, said headaches, neck pain, back pain, sciatica and stomach discomfort are frequently seen symptoms that will, along with sleep disorders and depression, respond well to massage of the appropriate points on the body.
Luo Tsai-chang, head of the county's health department, said the booklet for women contains practical information on maintaining health, using diet to stay healthy, and how to prevent disease. It addresses how TCM can help with the special needs of women from birth and childhood through adolescence, pregnancy, motherhood and menopause.
Luo added the township visits will be presided over by a Chinese medicine doctor who will see patients either in the morning or in the afternoon.
