Award-winning Taiwanese fashion designer Johan Ku announced Feb. 22 that he will take part in the upcoming Japan Fashion Week to be held in Tokyo from March 18 to 25.

During the 12th Japan Fashion Week, Ku said, he will showcase his signature woolen garments made of a mixture of rough fabrics and delicate crochets.

“Director Tsai Ming-liang’s film ‘The Hole’ was my source of inspiration in making the Fall/Winter 2011 collection of the same title,” Ku said. “The porous textile items afford great flexibility, allowing them to assume various shapes when worn differently.”

As part of the fashion week events, Ku will have his first solo catwalk show, featuring around 60 new pieces, including knitwear dresses, scarves and mittens.

Tsai said he will make a short film exclusively for Ku’s maiden show, adding that he and Ku have agreed to work together in future creative projects.

The 32-year-old designer said he intends to introduce his own fashion brand this year and hopes to find international buyers for his designs during his visit to Japan.

Ku is the first Taiwanese fashion designer to have received an invitation to participate in the prestigious event. More than 150 well-known international clothing designers and brands are taking part in this year’s fashion show. (HZW)
