Taiwanese photographer Fan Hui-ling was named Best Author at the 6th Emirates Photography Competition held in the United Arab Emirates, the Government Information Office said May 30.
Besides the honor, Fan has also been presented with two silver medals and two honorable mentions. She has won a total of 30,000 UAE dirham (US$8,170) in prize money at the most prestigious photography award in the Middle East, GIO officials said.
“I feel honored to receive the best author award,” Fan said, adding that she won a gold medal in the category of Landscape and Nature in last year’s edition of the event. Her winning works depicted a water bird catching a prey and a rugby match in Taipei.
Thousands of works from 139 countries were submitted to this year’s competition, with the central theme “Black and White through Creative Eyes,” according to the GIO.
Chen Yi-cheng and Chen Feng-lin, two other Taiwanese photographers, garnered honorable mentions with their works showing wild birds and an abstract formation resembling a tsunami, respectively.
The annual competition was co-hosted by the International Federation of Photographic Art and the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage, according to the GIO. (HZW)
