Following a successful outdoor concert in central Taiwan, American pop phenomenon Lady Gaga announced her upcoming Asian tour at a Taipei news conference July 4.

“It was my first time to perform so many songs for the new album,” the pop star said on the fourth day of her Taiwan trip. “It was a very special night, and I will never forget it.”

“I promise I will come back to tour Asia, and people in Taiwan will be able to see my shows very soon,” she added.

The news conference came on the heels of Lady Gaga’s first Taiwan concert July 3 at Taichung City’s Fulfillment Amphitheater, which drew over 6,000 fans.

Taiwan’s local culture inspired the creative star to decorate the piano she used for the concert with red lanterns, she said.

“I choose lanterns because it’s a sign of prosperity; it’s about being young and celebrating the choice of who you are,” the singer said.

Changhua’s 90-year-old folk art maestro Wu Dun-hou presented the superstar with a hand-painted paper lantern, receiving a hug from the diva in return.

The yellow lantern is adorned with a dragon, a colorful map of Taiwan and words of blessing.

On July 3, declared Lady Gaga Day by Taichung City Hall, the star was greeted in the city with a welcoming “dance and song of Gaga” performed by indigenous children of the Atayal tribe.

According to Taichung Mayor Jason Hu, “ga-ga” in the Atayal language refers to love for mankind, one another and the environment.

"So continue to love each other and love the environment. Continue to strengthen your love with God, and you have your whole life ahead of you," Lady Gaga said to the children.

Lady Gaga’s five-day Taiwan tour has created a media sensation across the nation, with hundreds of fans, or “little monsters,” tailing the 25-year-old star wherever she goes. (THN)
