Foreign students enrolled at overseas universities can now intern in schools or educational institutions around Taiwan, according to the ROC Ministry of Education Feb. 13.

The MOE said the students can apply to intern in Taiwan for as long as six months from the date their applications are approved by the respective schools and ministry.

According to the MOE, this practice helps the intern-accepting institutions enhance their links with international academia. It will also attract more foreign students to live, study and work in Taiwan, bolstering the local talent pool.

The ministry recently relaxed rules on mainland Chinese students studying in Taiwan.

Mainland Chinese graduate students are able to work as paid research or teaching assistants at their respective schools if this is a graduation requirement. But the students are still not allowed to hold employment outside of their schools, according to the MOE.

The ministry has also taken steps to allow local schools to recruit more mainland Chinese students, MOE said, adding that it expects to lift the number of institutions authorized to do so from 41 to 302. (DF-JSM)
