HTC Corp. Chairwoman Cher Wang was ranked 22nd on the First 25 list of U.S. business news network CNBC, the only ethnic Chinese woman and entrepreneur from Taiwan to achieve the honor.

HTC “has been in the smartphone game longer than its rivals, and its flagship HTC One was named best smartphone at the 2014 Mobile World Congress this past February,” according to CNBC April 30.

In addition, CNBC said although Wang is not based in Silicon Valley but on the other side of the Pacific Ocean, she is one of the most powerful women in technology, and the most powerful in wireless.

The CNBC First 25 list is a compilation of the most influential businessmen and women of the past 25 years, and celebrates organization’s 25th anniversary this year.

In response, Wang said she appreciates the recognition of CNBC and will work harder to serve global consumers. She also attributed HTC’s success to the company’s CEO Peter Chou and his efforts to bring the most innovative smartphones to the market.

The First 25 list honors influential people from such sectors as entertainment, fashion, government and technology. The late co-founder of U.S.-based Apple Inc. Steve Jobs is No. 1, founder of Microsoft Corp. Bill Gates No. 2 and former US. Federal Reserve chairmen Alan Greenspan and Ben Bernanke share No. 3. (DF-JSM)
