To promote digital technology in the nonprofit sector, the Ministry of Digital Affairs hosted an annual forum to present digital transition in over 1,000 nonprofit organizations and more than 300 nongovernmental organizations March 26 in Taipei City.

Ten NPOs and NGOs and five governmental agencies shared successful examples of digital transformation, the MODA said.

In his remarks, MODA Minister Huang Yen-nun noted that good use of data overcame challenges and brought about innovation, adding that the ministry would continue to provide new tools to expand altruistic use of technology.

Taipei City-based Angel Heart Family Social Welfare Foundation and Child Welfare League Foundation organized member databases and questionnaires and analyzed the needs of disabled children and underprivileged families. Through a single data management platform, Taipei City’s Lishin Charity Foundation has successfully shortened the time for social workers to map family trees by 58 hours, the ministry noted.

Oceanholic Co., a social enterprise in the northern city of Keelung, integrated marine data with generative artificial intelligence to connect marine travel with biodiversity databases, and facilitate environmental diplomacy.

In the public sector, southeastern Taiwan’s Taitung County’s Fire Department decreased security check reviews by 90 percent through the adoption of AI, while the Ministry of Finance Taxation Administration saved time by 60 percent through using generative AI to collect and compare legal data, the MODA added.

The ministry pledged to continue working collaboratively with NGOs and NPOs to forge a digitalized society. (POC-E)
