The Taiwan Food and Drug Administration held an industrial exchange event on market expansion for smart medical equipment April 28 in Taipei City, highlighting the government’s commitment to promoting cross-sector integration to improve the country’s global competitiveness.
Organized by Taipei-based Research Center for Biotechnology and Medicine Policy, the event included a technology demonstration, business matching services and a consultation session for relevant laws and regulations. Academics, officials, business representatives and medical staff came together from around the country to share knowledge and experience.
Another highlight was the keynote speeches on the latest global developments in smart medical devices, the TFDA said, adding that nine teams displayed their innovative technologies at the meeting. These projects included brain wave monitoring equipment, a liver cancer recurrence prediction platform and a 5G multi-parameter physiological monitoring system, it added.
The administration said it is committed to achieving a healthier Taiwan through the implementation of 11 projects, one of which assists enterprises looking to apply smart medical technology to health promotion and chronic disease prevention. Another strengthens the national cancer prevention and control plan. The TFDA is also dedicated to optimizing efficiency throughout the medical care process while jointly working with the private sector to boost the country’s industrial development, it said.
The approval of 180 licenses for medical devices that integrate artificial intelligence from 2020 to the end of March 2025 is evidence of the TFDA’s success to date, the body said, concluding by suggesting that Taiwan should accelerate innovation and resource integration in the face of growing global smart medical market.
