The final round of the 2025 Girls in Cybersecurity (TechGiCS) competition took place May 10 at the Cybersecurity & Smart Technology R&D Building in Tainan City, southern Taiwan, according to the Cabinet-level National Science and Technology Council.

The competition featured two categories. The first was an online quiz-style game in which participants answered questions related to information security.

The second was a creative challenge that prompted contestants to propose solutions to everyday problems. For university students, this category was further divided into those majoring in computer science or information engineering and those studying other disciplines.

The winner of the first category at the secondary level was a joint team from Taipei First Girls High School and Chih Ping Senior High School in the northern city of Taoyuan, while the tertiary-level winner was the National Taipei University of Technology.

In the second category, Mingdao High School in the central city of Taichung City won first place in the high school division. At the university level, National Taipei University of Education won in the computer science group, and Chung Shan Medical University in Taichung took the top prize in the non-computer science group.

Speaking at the award ceremony, NSTC Minister Wu Cheng-wen said that this year’s edition drew a total of 4,065 female students from high schools, colleges and universities across the country. Since the launch of TechGiCS five years ago, nearly 15,000 girls have taken part.

Wu expressed hope that the contest will continue to help students think outside the box.

Several high-tech companies also participated in the event, the NSTC said. Taipei-headquartered CHT Security Co., New Taipei City-based CyCraft Technology Corp. and Hsinchu City-headquartered AUO Corp. set up booths to showcase the latest in information security technologies. (POC-E)
