Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim welcomed continued collaboration with the International Paralympic Committee to support Taiwan’s athletes while seeking more opportunities for the country to host athletic events.

Hsiao made the remarks while receiving a delegation led by IPC President Andrew Parsons May 19 at the Presidential Office in Taipei City. Other prominent guests included Paul Bird, president of the Oceania Paralympic Committee.

The vice president began by thanking Parsons for supporting Taiwan’s participation in international competitions, noting that he attended the opening ceremony of the World Master Games 2025, currently underway in Taipei and New Taipei City, May 17 at Taipei Dome. The two cities invested a lot of effort in organizing the games, illustrating Taiwan’s capacity to contribute to global sporting events.

Hsiao pointed out that even at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, Taipei hosted the 20th IPC General Assembly, demonstrating the country’s commitment to promoting sports for all. She took the opportunity to recognize domestic Paralympians’ exceptional performances at the 2024 Paris Paralympics.

The launch of the Ministry of Sports in September this year is expected to further stimulate national sports development, Hsiao concluded. (POC-E)
