The Ministry of Education held the 2025 International Digital Learning Forum Aug. 13-14 both directly and in virtual form in central Taiwan's Taichung City, highlighting government commitment to advancing education in the era of artificial intelligence.
The event was attended by teachers, local government officials, businesses, parent representatives and universities. Invited to share measures in digital and AI education applications were academics, experts and officials from Taiwan, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Thailand. Panel session topics included learning progress and data analysis systems discussed by academics from Taiwan, Australia, Japan and the U.K.
Kuo Bor-chen, executive secretary of the MOE Office of Digital Learning Enhancement Plan, launched by the ministry in 2022, shared information on the Taiwan Adaptive Learning Platform. Results show that making use of the platform as a generative AI learning partner can improve independent learning ability and effectiveness, he said.
During the Aug. 14 panel session, Wu Ying-tien, director of the MOE Department of Information and Technology Education, noted that DLEP is student-centered and has three aims: to establish a national education big data system, enhance digital content and teaching resources and expand internet connectivity and access to digital devices.
Participants discussed details including applications for educational big data analysis and generative AI in education settings during the panel, the MOE said, adding that several teams displayed results of digital learning on the sidelines of the forum.
The MOE plans to develop digital teaching materials that combine games, generative AI, interaction and video, while strengthening education big data analysis mechanisms to provide schools and teachers with real-time information as references for teaching designs and policies, the ministry said. It will also create a next-generation AI learning system and establish a teachers’ alliance on smart education to enhance AI applications in education, the MOE added. (YCH-E)
