Premier Cho Jung-tai held the 34th meeting of the Executive Yuan’s Gender Equality Committee Dec. 24 in Taipei City.
Cho said during the meeting that the administration’s policy to assist double-income households with care for both children and elders enables working adults to remain in or return to their jobs. The EY called the policy a social investment strategy that nurtures inclusive growth, facilitates economic development and enables workers to strike a balance between family and career.
The premier also spoke about a two-year national initiative to prevent gender-based violence, launched this year, and how the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s establishment of an interministerial investigation and research center for the prevention of sexual violence factors in.
The Ministry of Labor briefed the committee on the progress of the dual income, dual care policy, and Cho directed them to continue dialogues with the corporate sector once the new system of parental leave is launched in order to optimize implementation and to encourage women to resume work after giving birth.
A proposal to improve the development plan for a national women’s museum was brought before the committee, and Cho recommended responsible ministries make reference to the National Human Rights Museum as a model. (POC-E)
