Tactics in the K-12 Education Administration’s project to realize the Bilingual 2030 policy include the forging of a bilingual learning environment in public elementary and junior high schools for the 2025-2026 academic year.

According to the Ministry of Education, a total of NT$408 million (US$12.9 million) has been allocated to 22 cities and counties. The MOE added that as of now, 1,049 primary and junior high schools nationwide have participated in the initiative.

The K-12EA provides the schools with resources and exchange opportunities, the ministry said, noting that it additionally documents their execution of the initiative for use in case studies to refine procedures and planning.

Citing Simen Experimental Elementary School in Tainan City as an example, the MOE said bilingual education is incorporated into administrative operation and campus life. It added that students are now capable of making presentations or receiving guests in Mandarin and English.

Teenagers at Kaohsiung Municipal Fushan Junior High School sharpen language abilities and cultivate technology literacy through instruction in the creation of bilingual audiovisual content. The MOE said that the learning of Mandarin and English have also been integrated into activities and events such as sports and parent-child carnivals, the MOE added.

The K-12EA pledged to continue fine-tuning the program through workshops and review mechanisms to equip students with better linguistic capabilities that enable them to explore the world with more confidence. (POC-E)
