Taiwan teams up with Japan to develop digital content industry

September 19, 2011

Taiwan and Japan will jointly develop the digital content sector to capitalize on the opportunities presented in this emerging industry, according to the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

In a move to enhance bilateral exchanges between the two nation’s businesses, an MOEA-organized delegation visited Japan Sept. 13 to 17 to take part in the inaugural Taiwan-Japan digital content forum and the Tokyo Game Show.

The group consisted of representatives from the state-backed Institute for Information Industry, Industrial Technology and Research Institute and 21 local firms in computer-aided animation production, digital learning, mobile Internet services and online gaming.

During the trip the Taipei-based Digital Content Industry Promotion Office and Tokyo-based Digital Content Association Japan signed a letter of intent that called for the pair to take turns hosting the annual forum, organize conferences and arrange business calls for firms from the two countries.

The two organizations pledged to continue promoting collaboration in digital content development, social networking services and cloud computing applications, the MOEA added.

According to the ministry, digital content developers from Taiwan and Japan have been in close collaboration in recent years.

Prime examples of such cooperation include the development and testing center in Kaohsiung City by Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., the Taiwan branch of Japan’s Shogakukan Inc. and the partnership between the Taipei-based publisher Cite Group and Japan’s Kodansha Ltd. to promote Chinese-language digital publishing.
