Super Micro Computer Inc., a U.S.-based server manufacturing company, officially opened its Taiwan Science and Technology Park Jan. 6.
ROC Vice President Vincent C. Siew and Minister of Economic Affairs Shih Yen-shiang were attending the opening ceremony.
The park will serve as the company’s logistics and operation base for the Asia-Pacific region, according to the InvesTaiwan Service Center under the Executive Yuan.
“The opening of our state-of-the-art science and technology park in Taiwan is a major milestone for Super Micro and establishes us as a top tier player in the enterprise server, storage and supercomputing business,” said company President Charles Liang.
Construction on the NT$3 billion (US$99 million) center began last February, according to ISC, which said the facility would also be used by the company for R&D.
Super Micro decided to invest in Taiwan because of the nation’s strong information communications industrial chains and the streamlined administrative services provided by the government, ISC said.
“We are very grateful for the help provided to us by Taiwan’s central and local governments,” Liang said. “Thanks to their support, Super Micro has now made a giant step forward in terms of its Asia-Pacific strategy.”
ISC said the company is expected to invest an additional NT$9 billion in the park over the next five years, and that its investments would generate NT$60 billion in output value and more than 3,000 job opportunities. (HZW)
