Taipei City Hospital’s Renai Branch recently revealed plans to open Taiwan’s first integrated sports medicine clinic dedicated to performance enhancement as well as the treatment of athletic injuries.
Slated to begin operations in March this year, the clinic will take a holistic approach that incorporates physiotherapy, orthopedics, family medicine, dietetics, nursing and several other medical disciplines to offer patients more complete treatment. TCH noted the clinic’s services have been approved by the Department of Health under the Taipei City Government.
According to TCH, the nation has seen a sharp increase in the number of health-conscious individuals, many of whom have taken up activities such as jogging and triathlon. The new facility, therefore, will cater to local residents in addition to professional athletes.
The clinic is an expansion of the health management center established at TCH’s Renai Branch in 2013. The original center offers services such as sports injury risk assessment, tailored medical treatment and injury management for athletes who are going to take part in the 2017 Summer Universiade scheduled for Aug. 19-30.
The Summer Universiade will be the largest sporting event ever staged in Taiwan and is expected to involve an estimated 7,700-plus athletes from nearly 170 countries contesting 21 sports. Events will take place at 38 venues in northern Taiwan, having been planned in accordance with standards set down by the International University Sports Federation, the Switzerland-based organization responsible for overseeing the Universiade.
