Three products from Taiwan received iF gold awards from German-based International Forum Feb. 10 in recognition of their outstanding design concepts.
Computer manufacturer Asustek Computer Inc. was given a Gold Award in Product Design for its P1 projector series using light-emitting diodes and featuring sophisticated mesh air vents to maximize cooling.
Birzman, a bicycle brand developed by Changhua-based Dirotech Corp., was also presented with a Product Design gold for its Specialist Wrench Set, which uses a simple and ergonomic design that is functional, durable and attractive, organizers said.
Taipei-based China University of Technology won a Gold Award for Communication Design with its “CHN Character-forming,” a set of six books illustrating the formation and aesthetics of Chinese characters.
The iF said it received a total of 4,322 submissions this year, and that 1,128 of these were given iF Design awards. Only 100 products received the iF Gold Award: 60 in the Product Design category, 30 in Communication Design, and five each in Material Design and Packaging Design.
Other Taiwan companies to receive iF product design awards this year include Acer Inc., Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd., Qisda Corp. and Zeva Corp.
The award ceremony was a highlight of the first-ever Munich Creative Business Week, running Feb. 7 to 12 at the southern German city, where hundreds of designers and business representatives held more than 90 events.
This year’s gold winning products are on display at a special exhibition running Feb. 11 to 26 at the BMW Museum in Munich. (HZW)
