Taiwan entries won three golds, one silver and 13 bronzes at the Malaysian Innovation and Invention Awards Feb. 18 in Kuala Lumpur. The island’s 30 submissions achieved a success rate of over 50 percent, the highest among all 13 countries participating in 2012 Malaysia Technology Expo-staged competition.
A Taiwan-cultivated orchid collected third prize Feb. 17 at the Japan Grand Prix International Festival. Grown by Kao Shui-en, head of Ching Hua Orchid Co., the flower also received a special award from U.K.-based Royal Horticultural Society. The orchid was among 1,293 entries spanning 3,000 varieties from 20 countries at the event, which runs Feb. 18-26 at the Tokyo Dome.
Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs Lin Sheng-chung is leading a delegation to Europe Feb. 18-26 as part of efforts aimed at promoting the proposed Taiwan-EU trade pact. The group will meet with government officials and industry association representatives in Paris, Brussels, Berlin and Frankfurt, as well as representatives of various EU member manufacturing industry associations.
