A major development project will kick off next month in Taoyuan, bolstering the local economy and overall living standards in the populous northern Taiwan county.
“This project is a key investment that will attract multitudes of local consumers and foreign visitors, as well as spur regional growth,” Taoyuan County Magistrate Wu Chih-yang said April 9.
Accessible by the planned Taoyuan International Airport mass rapid transit system, the NT$20 billion-plus (US$663.1 million) investment is expected to create 7,700 jobs and generate NT$10 billion in tourism output.
Developed by Taipei-City Based Cathay Life Insurance Co. Ltd., the project covers 21.88 hectares near Taiwan High Speed Rail Taoyuan Station. It will be implemented in four stages, and includes an entertainment complex, green office building and 300-room hotel.
Construction on the first part of the project, a 33,000-square-meter outlet mall featuring 250 international designer brands, will begin in May, with the opening scheduled for April 2015.
Another major undertaking is an NT$10 billion, 33,000-square-meter advanced logistics park by Taipei City-based Ally Logistic Property Co. Ltd.
According to the county government, Taoyuan is home to the largest logistics service cluster in Taiwan, accounting for 70 percent of such business activity nationwide.
As part of efforts to develop Taoyuan’s economy, the Cabinet has earmarked NT$4 billion for access roads to Taoyuan Aerotroplis, a key part of the i-Taiwan 12 Infrastructure Projects, the county government said. (SFC-JSM)
