The inaugural Taiwan Innovation Match-Making Show was previewed April 29 by organizer Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) in Taipei City

Set to kick off May 28, the event features 16 award-winning Taiwan inventions, including the Vinaera Electronic Wine Aerator, foldable FoFoCup tumblers, multimedia kiosk robot Smart101 and a singing light-emitting diode, or LED, bulbs.

The two-day show is to be staged at Taipei World Trade Center Exhibition Hall No. 1, with a total of 236 products from 200 local creative teams and firms flying the flag for Taiwan’s innovation and invention prowess, TAITRA said.

According to the council, the exhibits will cover a wide range of themes, including biomedicine, cloud applications, cultural and creative design, electronic information, green energy and precision machinery.

Creativity is one of Taiwan’s most important economic assets, TAITRA said, citing an annual average of 220 winning submissions over the past three years at top invention competitions in Germany, Switzerland and the U.S. But only 0.3 percent of these creations made it to market, a number far below the global standard of 3 percent, TAITRA added.

The show, which is part of the ROC government’s creative industry initiative, aims to support local talents by providing a platform for inventors and venture capitalists to come together, exchange ideas and tap business opportunities.

It is projected that over 600 matchmaking sessions will take place during the two-day event, TAITRA said, adding that it will also stage a round-Taiwan promotional tour in the lead-up to the show. (YHC-JSM)
