Taichung City in central Taiwan was recently named a trending travel destination for domestic and foreign tourists by U.S.-based vacation rental platform HomeAway.

In a report published Feb. 15, the company listed the municipality as one of the top three trending vacation spots for 2018 alongside Cebu, Philippines and Fukuoka, Japan among Singaporean families and travel groups. The city was similarly identified as a top three destination for Taiwan families and travel groups—together with Cebu and Sapporo, Japan—in a separate publication released Feb. 21.

According to HomeAway, Taichung offers a variety of attractions to suit every taste as well as easy access to the country’s mountainous interior. Endowed with rich heritage and beautiful natural landscapes, the city is an ideal choice for those seeking to get away from the crowds, the U.S. firm said, adding that Taichung’s convenient commercial districts and abundance of affordable dining options are drawing in more and more tourists each year.

In response, Taichung City Government said it is committed to boosting the central metropolis’s appeal among domestic and foreign travelers. Related efforts include transforming the city’s airport into a major international gateway as well as campaigns to foster awareness of idyllic scenic spots such as Gaomei Wetlands and Guguan hot springs.

The city is also preparing to host the Taichung World Flora Exposition from Nov. 3 this year to April 24, 2019. Themed The Sound of Blooming, the event will showcase an array of native fruits and flowers and promote emerging environmental concepts and solutions at Fengyuan Huludun Park, Houli Horse Ranch and Forest Park Area and Waipu Park Area.
