A licensing agreement is set to be concluded between Taipei City-based National Museum of History and Tokyo-headquartered DNP Art Communications Co., a leading Asian digital reproduction and rights management firm, according to the Ministry of Culture.
The accord will be inked April 26 at the Taiwan Pavilion during 2018 Licensing Expo Japan running until the next day at Tokyo Big Sight Exhibition Center. It marks the first time that the NMH has reached such a deal with an Asian company, following the signing of similar pacts with French and U.S. enterprises in 2016.
According to the MOC, the pact will promote convenient access for Japanese businesses to the museum’s digital archives and expand cooperation between the cultural and creative industries of both sides.
With an expansive collection of unique artifacts, the NMH has considerable growth potential in international imaging licensing, the MOC said, adding that measures to digitize and promote its artistic and historical treasures overseas will foster broader awareness of Taiwan’s rich cultural landscape.
In view of Japan’s mature licensing sector, the agreement signifies an important step in efforts to expand the museum’s commercial services and cultivate new markets for Taiwan’s digital resources, the ministry said.
Established in 1955, the NMH manages a collection of almost 60,000 antiquities spanning bronzes, ceramics, coins, jade, lacquer, paintings and pottery works. (KH-E)
