The Indo-Pacific Security Dialogue opened Aug. 30 in Taipei City, bringing together leading experts from home and abroad to examine ways of creating a more free, open and prosperous region.
Jointly organized by Taipei City-based Prospect Foundation, Center for New American Security in Washington and Tokyo-headquartered Sasakawa Peace Foundation, the one-day forum also serves as a platform for demonstrating Taiwan’s commitment to promoting peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, academics, experts and politicians from Taiwan, Australia, India, Japan and the U.S. will get to grips with regional economic and security challenges, as well as devise fresh approaches for closer cooperation among like-minded countries on issues of mutual concern.
One of the headline attendees is retired Adm. James G. Stavridis, former NATO supreme allied commander Europe and current executive at U.S. think tank Carlyle Group. He will discuss geopolitics and analyze Taiwan’s role in regional affairs.
Another is Nadia Schadlow, ex-deputy national security adviser for strategy under the administration of President Donald J. Trump and serving senior program officer at U.S.-based think tank Smith Richardson Foundation. She will share her experiences in shaping and implementing the Department of State’s Indo-Pacific strategy.
The MOFA said the forum’s in-depth discussions are expected to lay the groundwork for reaching consensus on critical issues and pave the way for strengthening collaborative partnerships among regional stakeholders. (SFC-E)
