“On behalf of President Ma Ying-jeou and the people of the ROC, I congratulate Compaore on his reelection and look forward to closer bilateral cooperation in the days ahead,” Wu said.
“I expect the two nations will continue working together in such areas as agriculture, human resource development, medical care, public sanitation, vocational training and the photovoltaic industry,” he said.
In response, Compaore reaffirmed his nation’s relationship with the ROC and expressed gratitude for its role in providing significant industrial development assistance.
“I also look forward to both sides further expanding economic and political cooperation,” he said.
Prior to the meeting, Wu toured the newly constructed National Hospital of Blaise Compaore in Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso. The premier said he was impressed with the facility, which was built with ROC assistance, and pledged ongoing support for medical development in the West African country.
Wu said the hospital features the latest medical equipment from Taiwan, and is set to play an important role in providing sound medical care and protecting public health.
Central Taiwan’s Puli Christian Hospital is tasked with getting the facility ready to take its first patients. A five-member Burkina Faso delegation comprising the hospital’s top management is currently in Taiwan on a month-long training program.
“Through this arrangement, we will share our expertise on medical facility management and operations,” said Peter Liu, director of PCH’s department of medical service development. (JSM)
