The third Taiwanese American Film Festival is set to kick off Nov. 16 at the Downtown Independent theater in Los Angeles, showcasing six of the latest productions from Taiwan’s up-and-coming filmmakers.

Organized by U.S.-based organization Taiwanese American Professionals and supported by the Ministry of Culture and Taiwan Academy under Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in LA, the one-day event is scheduled to screen feature film “Heavy Craving” by Hsieh Pei-ju and shorts “Do It Again” by Yeh Hsin-hsuan, “Chi: The Method of Breathing” by Liu Yi, “Master of Divinity” by Eugene Suen, “Our Home Here” by Angela Chen and “Kiss of the Rabbit God” by Andy Huang.

According to TAFF, this year’s festival will also feature a competition where aspiring filmmakers can pitch their ideas for a chance to win US$5,000 in prize money, with the six selected for the final round receiving a month of professional consultation and training from Hollywood industry insiders.

TAFF Executive Director Anthony Ma said the festival is always searching for films that spotlight modern Taiwan and can amplify the country’s voice on the world stage. Every event has helped to bring these works to new audiences while inspiring fresh talent, he added.

Launched in 2017, TAFF is an interactive platform featuring diverse activities such as contests, screenings, and workshops designed to promote Taiwan-related film and television projects. Last year’s festival was attended by over 400 people. (RAY-E)
