Local startups now have a badge they can wear with pride following the launch of the Startup Island Taiwan branding Dec. 18 in Taipei City by the Cabinet-level National Development Council, spotlighting government efforts to promote the country’s budding entrepreneurs.
Organized by the NDC, the launch event was attended by Digital Minister Audrey Tang alongside officials from the Ministries of Culture, Economic Affairs, Foreign Affairs and Science and Technology, as well as over 100 representatives from Taiwan-based startups.
NDC Minister Chen Mei-ling said the branding, comprising a logo that can be freely used by all the country’s startup ventures, is a massive stride forward in boosting the visibility of local companies. The move will help further economic growth while providing Taiwan businesses with a unified identity for marketing their products on the global stage, she added.
According to the NDC, Taiwan was this year named one of the world’s four most innovative countries for the second consecutive time by Switzerland-based World Economic Forum, trailing only Germany, Switzerland and the U.S.
To capitalize on this culture of innovation, numerous consultations and workshops have been held since October last year to create an eye-catching brand, the NDC said, adding that Startup Island Taiwan was the consensus choice of both government officials and startup community representatives.
The branding is the latest in a range of government policies designed to provide local startups with a competitive edge. These include the launch of several hubs for related businesses, such as Taipei-based Taiwan Tech Arena and New Taipei City-based Startup Terrace. (RAY-E)
