A compilation of works by 12 Taiwanese comics artists is being featured at the Sixth BD Festival International de Lausanne in Switzerland Sept. 10-12.

The collection, titled “Taiwan Comix” is on display in the Fanzines section. The Lausanne festival, known for its high artistic standards, has a high reputation among independent comics artists worldwide.

“Though some Taiwan comics have their own style, they have been largely unknown to the international community,” said Lilou Lin, an expatriate Taiwanese comics artist in France and one of the initiators of the project. “We wanted this book to be a business card for Taiwanese comics,” she added.

The book features works by artists such as Cheng Wen, Chen Hong-yao, Kid Jerry, Fish Wang and Liu Ying-chieh, with some pieces dating as far back as the 1980s.

The compilation had earlier appeared at the annual International Comics Festival in the western French city of Angouleme in January. Nicolas Finet, one of the event’s organizers, during his trip to Taiwan this August also showed interest in featuring Taiwan comics as a theme in the 2012 festival, sources said. (THN)
