State-run Taiwan Power Co. was a big winner at the 2020 Red Dot Award, bagging three prizes in the category of brands and communication design according to the Ministry of Economic Affairs July 16.

Scoring Best of the Best in its category is “Light Up 13 Layer Remains,” a light installation accentuating a disused copper refinery as part of Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations Sept. 13, 2019, in New Taipei City. The show, which was arranged by the Taipei City-based company in collaboration with illumination designer Chou Lien, artist Joyce Ho and New Taipei City-headquartered YI.ng Lighting Design Consultant, also received an award from U.S.-headquartered Illuminating Engineering Society in June.

Taipower D/S One, an energy-themed exhibition hall in New Taipei City, joins the installation on the winner’s list. It received the honor for its creative EnerGym, which allows people to better understand electricity generation through interactive games incorporating battling ropes, basketball shooting and spinning on stationary bicycles.

The facility additionally secured a Muse Award by American Alliance of Museums and an A’ Design Award organized by Italian design institutions earlier this month.

Rounding out TPC’s winning entries is its exhibition “Just Flow,” held September 2019 through January 2020 in southern Taiwan’s Tainan City and central Taiwan’s Taichung City and Nantou County. According to the MOEA, it was commended by judges for making the development of country’s hydro power generation over the last 100 years more accessible to the public.

Established in 1955, Red Dot Award is one of the largest and most distinguished industrial design competitions in the world, receiving more than 18,000 entries yearly from design professionals, companies and organizations from over 70 countries and territories. (YCH-E)
