President Tsai Ing-wen kicked off a projection mapping show illuminating the facade of the historic Presidential Office building as part of ROC (Taiwan) 109th Double Tenth National Day celebrations Oct. 6 in Taipei City.

Themed “Proud of Taiwan,” the show features images honoring Taiwan’s effective COVID-19 response and paying tribute to late former President Lee Teng-hui. The eight-minute event will be staged every half hour from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Oct. 6-10 outside the PO.

According to a tweet on Tsai’s official Twitter account, October 10 marks another year for Taiwan’s dynamic, democratic society. The president lauded the local populace for coming together to meet great challenges in 2020 and propelling the country forward, adding that this is yet another year the people can be truly proud of Taiwan.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, Tsai said the projection show has been a highlight of Double Tenth National Day celebrations since 2017. Last year’s edition was selected winner of a 2020 Red Dot Award in the brand and communication design category, she added.

Among the high-profile attendees were Legislative Speaker You Si-kun, who heads the event’s preparatory committee, and Chiang Chun-nan, vice chairman of Taipei City-based General Association of Chinese Culture.

The light show is one of numerous celebratory events taking place through Oct. 10 countrywide. Others include a National Day reception to be held in northern Taiwan’s Keelung City and a fireworks display in the southern city of Tainan. (YCH-E)
