The ROC Ministry of the Interior said April 25 that draft amendments to the Immigration Act are currently under review in the Legislature. Once the bill passes third reading, it is expected that more outstanding foreign professionals and overseas Chinese will be attracted to work in Taiwan. Under the revised bill, a foreigner’s Alien Permanent Resident Certificate will not be canceled unless the foreigner has left Taiwan for more than five years, compared to the current 183 days out of each year, the MOI said.
Taiwan’s CPC Corp. and Beijing-based Sinopec International Petroleum Exploration and Production Corp. inked a contract on exploration for natural gas in Myanmar, paving the way for the Taiwan firm to mine in the nation. The pact gives CPC rights to 30 percent of production. (KML-THN)
