The backing of Formosa Club chapters in the Caribbean and Latin America for Taiwan and its participation in international organizations is sincerely appreciated by the government and people, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Oct. 26.
According to the MOFA, the two Formosa Club chapters hosted a virtual meeting in support of Taiwan’s international participation in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership, Interpol and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in the spirit of pragmatism, professionalism and making substantial contributions to the international community.
The event involved Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu, Vice Foreign Minister Alexander Tah-ray Yui as well as over 100 dignitaries, political figures and lawmakers from 21 countries.
In a recorded message, Wu said Taiwan is a reliable partner that is determined to play a meaningful role in the international community. Through working with like-minded partners, the country is committed to tackling challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and advancing sustainable development in the post-pandemic era.
Other high-profile participants included Carolyn Trench Sandiford, president of Belize’s Senate; Mark A. G. Brantley, minister of foreign affairs and aviation for St. Kitts and Nevis and premier of Nevis; Ralph Gonsalves, prime minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines; as well as Fanny Salinas Fernandez, PARLACEN president.
In a tweet on its official Twitter account, the MOFA said: “Stellar support for #Taiwan's @UNFCCC, @INTERPOL_HQ & #CPTPP participation from 100+ members of the Formosa Club #Caribbean & #LatinAmerica. Our gratitude to @ComradeRalph, @markbrantley3, @PARLACEN President Salinas & other like-minded friends for choosing to #StandWithTaiwan.”(DL-E)
