A pilot smart campus initiative was launched this month at three senior high schools in central and northern Taiwan, laying the foundations for the high-tech transformation on the nation’s education sector.

Supported by Hon Hai Group, a leading Taiwan electronics manufacturer, the program involves educators and students using devices like tablets, smart TVs and interactive whiteboards to achieve borderless communication and interaction through fourth-generation and fiber-optic networks powered by cloud and fog computing.

information technology-based program are National Taichung Girls’ Senior High School, National Experimental School at Hsinchu Science Park and Affiliated Senior High School of National Taiwan Normal University in Taipei City.

Hon Hai Chairman Terry Gou, founder of the program, said the experimental learning platform established specifically for this initiative will reshape the nation’s secondary educational institutions. “Leveraging the group’s advantages in high-tech hardware and software, the initiative is set to create an integrated system combining intelligent pedagogy with high-speed networking capability.

“The technology-enhanced model will also facilitate promotion of flipped education, enabling students to take the initiative in acquiring knowledge.”

Gou said the next step involves expanding program coverage around Taiwan. “In this way, information and resources can be shared equally by schools in urban and remote areas alike. It will also provide the government with better bang for its education buck.” (YHC-JSM)
